Beyond its basic function, this galaxy bong slide includes specific design elements that make it a collector-worthy piece. The interplay between the glass, coating, and finish defines its unique character.

How Does The Dichroic Glass Create A Galaxy Effect?

The "galaxy" effect comes from the science behind dichroic glass. We fuse the glass with incredibly thin layers of non-toxic metallic oxides, creating a surface that filters and reflects light in a special way. As your viewing angle changes, different light wavelengths are transmitted, causing the colors to shift dramatically. This looks like the swirling nebulas of deep space, giving you a small piece of the cosmos.

Why Choose A Bowl With A Frosted Finish?

The frosted finish on this bowl serves two purposes: looks and function. Visually, the frosted texture diffuses light, which enhances the depth of the dichroic galaxy pattern and makes the colors appear softer. Functionally, the matte surface provides a much better grip than smooth glass, which helps prevent accidental slips, especially when the slide is hot or wet.

Proper cleaning is essential to preserve the vibrant look of your dichroic glass slide. A simple soak and shake with isopropyl alcohol (91%+) and coarse salt is effective. This method dissolves residue without scratching the delicate surface, keeping the galaxy effect pristine for years to come.

What Cleaning Methods Should You Avoid With Dichroic Glass?

To protect the finish, never use boiling water, as the extreme temperature shock can crack the glass. Avoid using hard metal pokers, pipe cleaners with sharp wire cores, or abrasive scouring pads. Also, do not put your dichroic slide in the dishwasher. The combination of high heat and harsh detergents can permanently dull or even strip away the special coating.
