Traveling with Delta 8

Now that we’re finally able to start traveling again, we wanted to answer all of your questions about how to take Delta 8 along for the ride, no matter where your adventures take you. Read on to find out how to safely fly with Delta 8 so that you can stay in an elevated state of mind, whether you’re on your way to the mountains, the beach, or somewhere in between. Happy travels!

Can you Bring Delta 8 on a Plane?

In most cases, yes!

There are a few things that you’ll need to take into consideration when traveling with Delta-8, but, generally speaking, you shouldn’t have an issue.

Thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp and hemp-derived products are federally legal as long as they contain less than 0.3% THC by dry weight. This means that if you buy your Delta-8 from a trusted retailer like Bay Smokes, it will comply with these laws. As you probably know, though, some states have specifically banned Delta8. If Delta-8 is legal both where you’re flying out of and where you’re flying into, then traveling with the cannabinoid should be a breeze.

How do I Know if Delta 8 is Legal?

Because laws surrounding hemp, delta-8, and other cannabinoids have been changing so much, this can be a tricky question.

We should also note that we’re only talking about flying domestically within the United States here. If you’re flying internationally, things get a whole lot more complicated and we would honestly recommend not taking your D8 with you if you’re traveling overseas. Laws about hemp products are pretty highly-charged in other countries as well, and you definitely don’t want to make customs or immigrations more of a hassle than they need to be. If you’re flying into a country where hemp products are legal, you can always stock up again when you get there!

In terms of the United States, we’ve compiled a helpful list for you about where Delta-8 and other cannabinoids are legal. You can check it out on our blog!

That being said, the laws around hemp and hemp products are always changing. We’re not lawyers, so consult with an attorney if you have any specific questions or concerns.

How Do I Store Delta 8 When Traveling?

This is definitely something that you’ll want to keep in mind when traveling with D8! You’ll want to make sure to adhere to general TSA guidelines here.

If you’re traveling with Delta-8 edibles, you can almost always just toss them in your checked luggage or your carryon, especially if they’re still sealed.

If you want to bring your Delta-8 vape with you, make sure that the battery is switched off. We usually like to take our vapes apart before traveling and store the pieces in a plastic bag, just in case. Also, you’ll need to keep your vape in your carry on—do not leave it in your checked luggage.

If you’re traveling with a Delta-8 tincture, be sure to follow the general TSA rules about traveling with liquids. If it’s in your carryon, it’ll need to be in a container that’s less than 3 ounces and you’ll have to take it out of your bag when you go through security. If it’s in your checked luggage, it can be more than 3 ounces. Either way, we recommend putting your tincture bottle in a plastic bag or other sealable container to avoid a potential mess.

Traveling with Delta-8 flower might seem like the most risky option, but remember: as long as Delta-8 is legal both where you are and where you’re going (and you don’t spark up in the airplane bathroom), then it shouldn’t be an issue! You can keep flower in your carryon or put it in your checked luggage. It’s not a bad idea to keep flower in the original, clearly labeled package that it came in. If it’s still sealed, that’s even better. If you’re really worried, you could even print off the certifications for your flower and some legal information about Delta-8.

It’s worth noting that TSA no longer looks for cannabis when you’re just going through security normally. You should still be sure to follow general TSA travel guidelines, but that just makes it even easier to keep your D8 with you when you travel!

What’s the Best Delta 8 for Travel?

That all depends what you’re looking for! Luckily, here at Bay Smokes, we carry Delta-8 products for every lifestyle, whether you’re going on a business trip or setting off for your next adventure.

If you’re looking to combat travel stress or get some sleep on a redeye, then tinctures or edibles are a great choice. They’re both portable and discrete, so it’s easy to dose yourself whenever and wherever you need it. We love Bay Smokes gummies— they’re the perfect strength to help you chill out a little bit (or you can eat a couple if you need to pass the time on an extra-long flight)!

If you’re going on vacation and want to be sure you can stay lifted even once the plane lands, then a vape is a great choice. Even though you can’t use them on a plane, they’re discrete and portable enough for use in a hotel room, vacation rental house, tent, or wherever you find yourself. We love Bay Smokes disposable vapes for their convenience—no need to worry about chargers and cables. OG Kush is a great strain for both adventuring and relaxing, and having premium D8 on hand is the best way to make new friends in a new city!

Traveling with Delta 8 is surprisingly doable. As long as you follow general TSA guidelines and double-check the laws in the state that you’re flying to, you shouldn’t have an issue. Have fun on your next adventure, and we’d love to see where you take your Bay Smokes products!
